Another Responsible Budget – 4 Years in a Row

Council adopted the 2025/26 Budget and locked in the 4-Year Capital Works Program — delivering a $2.4 million surplus, our 4th consecutive surplus since GRRRP was elected.

Every year, we’ve delivered responsible budgets by making tough choices and prioritising the services, facilities, and infrastructure our community values most.

Synthetic Field Rubber Crumb Trial

Council is taking the lead on reducing synthetic field pollution, funding a Rubber Crumb Containment Trial to help prevent microplastics from entering local waterways and bushland.

Backed by Football St George and the Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society, this project is a great example of environmental sustainability and sport working together.

Oatley Bowling Club Site: Revisiting the Master Plan

A fresh chapter is underway for the Oatley Bowling Club site, with Council revising the master plan to shift focus towards creating a pocket forest and community garden.

This green transformation reflects our ongoing commitment to increasing tree canopy and biodiversity, and ensuring our facilities meet the needs of both current and future generations.

We congratulate Councillor Natalie Mort on her appointment as Chairperson of the Assets and Infrastructure Committee.

Councillor Mort has been a dedicated member of the committee since she was elected to Council, and we look forward to her continued leadership in this important role. She fills the casual vacancy following the resignation of Councillor Ambihaipahar.

🛑 Council Opposes Woolworths Rezoning in Ramsgate

Council formally opposed a rezoning proposal to allow a large Woolworths supermarket in Ramsgate, based on unresolved traffic concerns raised by staff and independent consultants.

The site already permits housing under current zoning — meaning more homes could be delivered without a rezoning. We stood with residents and supported expert planning advice.

🏊 Carss Park Pool: Learn to Swim Pool in Design Scope

Good news for the Carss Park Pool redevelopment — the Office of Sport has supported including a Learn to Swim pool in the design phase.

This will allow full cost estimates to be developed and, if extra funding is needed for the Learn to Swim component, Council will consider a future contribution when a detailed report is presented.

Council is rolling out short-term safety fixes at Edward Street and Colvin Avenue—including better line markings, extended no-stopping zones, reflective stickers, and improved lighting.

Work is planned for September, following community updates and approvals.

Long-term options like roundabouts and speed humps will be investigated this financial year, with funding set aside for 2026/27.

Council will also update parking restrictions outside Aldi to improve safety and ease traffic flow in the area.

Councillor Christina Jamieson’s budget bid was supported to deliver embellishments in Mortdale Village, making it greener, safer, and more inviting. Proposed improvements include timber cladding on seating, additional planter boxes and trees, new bench seating, and street tree lighting to enhance comfort and vibrancy.

Exciting plans are underway to transform disused TAHE land in Penshurst into a welcoming park and garden space, with funding allocated in the 2025/26 year for design work.

Council has committed funding for a new fit out to the amenities and to enhance the streetscape — improving green space, walkability, and local amenity for residents and visitors alike.

🚸 Safer School Zones at Carlton South

Council is taking steps to improve safety during school pick-up and drop-off near Carlton South Public School — including better signage and visibility improvements to make the area safer for kids and families.
