As we approach the end of 2023, the entire GRRRP Team would like to extend warm wishes to you and your families for a joyous Christmas and a happy, safe New Year.

It's been almost two years since we were initially elected to represent the residents and ratepayers of Georges River Council. Serving in this capacity has been an honour, allowing us to connect with many remarkable individuals and community organisations dedicated to making our area a better place.

Since the commencement of our tenure, the GRRRP Team has strived to bring about positive changes to the council. We thank the community for their support and collaboration throughout this journey. We are confident that we have achieved this objective, and we remain optimistic about the future of our local government area under the new management and leadership at Georges River Council.

We are delighted to share with you this update, featuring two significant announcements and community victories concerning Carss Park Pool and the Beverley Park Golf Course fence.

TeamGRRRP are ecstatic to share the news that Georges River Council and the NSW State Government have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deliver the Kogarah War Memorial Pool at Carss Park.

The NSW Office of Sport is calling for tenders for initial scoping and design work, and will project manage the delivery of the pool.

Premier Chris Minns made an election pledge to rebuild Carss Park Pool, and having the support and involvement of the Office of Sport, under Minister Steve Kamper’s portfolio, to help progress, fund and resource the detailed business case, detailed design, and development consent for the aquatic facility is a major milestone.

Mayor of Georges River Council Sam Elmir made the announcement of the MOU during his Mayoral Minute at Council’s meeting on Monday 19 December. Read the Mayoral Minute.

In November 2022, Council resolved to support the construction of Georges River’s third aquatic facility at Carss Park on the site of the former Kogarah War Memorial Pool.

Georges River Council will provide support as the landowner and future operator of the facility and will continue to manage the demolition and remediation of the site, which is due to commence in February 2024, as well as updating the Plan of Management and Master Plan for the whole Carss Park and Todd Park precinct.

Having campaigned for many years for the rebuilding of Carss Park Pool, we’re really pleased to share this exciting and positive news with the community prior to Christmas.

In February 2018, residents of Beverley Park, including Deputy Mayor Elise Borg, received a letter from Georges River Council notifying residents that a DA had been lodged by the Beverley Park Golf Club to erect a perimeter security fence around the Beverley Park Golf Course.

Receiving this letter was the start of a year’s long community campaign, led by Deputy Mayor Borg, aimed at stopping the fence and preserving the amenity of Beverley Park, with the golf course at its core.

We are so pleased that now, under new management, the Beverley Park Golf Club Board has resolved to abort the Golf Course Fence project.

This is a major win for the community and a major win for common sense and GRRRP thank the board for this announcement.

The new Board have demonstrated they wish to engage and connect with the local community and want to embrace welcoming all neighbours back to the club.

Deputy Mayor Borg looks forward to working in collaboration with the Beverley Park Golf Club and Council for the betterment of the whole community.

• Call to restore popular Kogarah Bay Wharf - Deputy Mayor Elise Borg moved a motion for Council to write to Minister Steve Kamper seeking grant opportunites for the rebuilding of Endeavour Street Wharf in Sans Souci.

• Councillor Peter Mahoney re-elected as Treasurer of Georges Riverkeeper for a new term.

• Commemorating Remembrance Day and celebrating 100 years of the Kogarah Cenetaph.

• Commemorating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Ceremony.
