Election Results Declared: A Huge Win for GRRRP!

The election results from 2024 have been officially declared, and the Georges River Residents & Ratepayers are ecstatic to announce that we have increased our presence on Council, with five of our candidates elected to Georges River Council!

This amazing result would not have been possible without the support of many of you—our loyal and dedicated supporters—who volunteered to put up signs, letterbox-drop our flyers, share our social media, man the pre-polls, or help hand out flyers on election day.

Welcome to Matt Allison: New Councillor for Peakhurst Ward

We extend our thanks to the residents of Peakhurst Ward for trusting GRRRP and Peter Mahoney with their vote, which has resulted in Peter’s number 2 candidate, Matthew Allison, also being elected to Georges River Council. We are delighted to welcome Matt to the Georges River Residents & Ratepayers team on Council. Matt has already been serving residents for decades through his community and environmental work, and we are thrilled he will now be able to elevate this advocacy on Council.

Bob Jones Misses Out in Hurstville Ward

Unfortunately, Bob Jones missed out again in Hurstville Ward. We thank Bob for putting his hand up once more to contest the tough Hurstville Ward and for giving voters a choice. Both Bob and Gail Jones have been instrumental in the success of Georges River Residents & Ratepayers during this election and since our party’s inception. They are the driving force behind our party and continue to serve as our party’s Registered Officer and Secretary, respectively.

A Heartfelt Thanks to Our Number 2 and 3 Candidates

We also thank all of our number 2 and 3 candidates who ran with us in this election. It is a big commitment to have your name included on the ballot paper. We are grateful for your dedication and the many hours you spent meeting voters at train stations, shopping centres, and polling booths. A special thank you to Sonia Baxant, Max Brightwell, Rachel Zhang, Nicole Hawick, Mary Cassimatis, Heidi Breeze, Chris Tofalakis, Deb Mackie, and Alex Fleming. Alex Fleming just missed out on being elected in Mortdale Ward by a mere 373 votes!

Looking Ahead: Continuing Our Work for Positive Change

Council Balance and Election Outcomes

With five GRRRP candidates elected, it is important to note that no party has outright majority control of the Council. We believe this is crucial for fostering a balanced and collaborative Council.

The final makeup of Council is as follows: ALP (6), GRRRP (5), LIBERAL (3), and INDEPENDENT (1).

Upcoming Extraordinary Meeting - Election of Mayor & Deputy

At 6 p.m. on Monday, 14th October, Georges River Council will hold an Extraordinary Meeting to swear in Councillors and elect the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and all standing committee and advisory positions.

More Work Ahead: We’re Eager to Keep Delivering for Our Community

There is so much important work to be done in this new term of Council, including the rebuilding of Carss Park Pool, getting the best outcomes for Georges River residents from the State Government housing reforms, overseeing the implementation of the Beverly Hills and Mortdale Master Plans and protecting our natural environment.

We look forward to continuing to deliver positive change, representing the Georges River community with our strong, independent voice on Council.
