GRRRP Election Update - 2 months until polls open

Update on Councillor Peter Mahoney

If you've been following our social media, you might know that Councillor Peter Mahoney was involved in a serious car accident in early June while returning to Sydney from the south coast.

He sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to St George Hospital, where he underwent surgery and spent over a week in intensive care.

We are pleased to report that Councillor Mahoney is improving daily. He has been moved to Waratah Hospital and has been able to leave the hospital on a few occasions. He is enjoying a steady stream of visitors each day.

Councillor Mahoney remains dedicated to running for re-election, aiming to continue his advocacy for the community and the environment on Georges River Council. This goal is fueling his motivation during rehabilitation, helping him strive toward full recovery.

Rest assured, Peter will continue to actively represent the residents of Peakhurst Ward and Georges River, with full support from his TeamGRRRP colleagues Elise, Natalie, Christina, and Bob.

At the June Council meeting, Council adopted the 2024/25 Budget, which is forecast to achieve a surplus of $2.3 million! This marks the third consecutive year Council is forecast to achieve a budget surplus. This accomplishment is the result of difficult prioritisation of valued services, projects, and programs, a responsibility our GRRRP councillors take very seriously.

Some LGA-wide budget highlights include;

Sport Field Renovation Program: $200,000
Bushcare and Tree Replacement Program to improve canopy cover: $150,000
Heritage Building Grants: $25,000
Companion Animal Identification and Desexing program: $50,000
Park Regulatory Signage: $20,000
Feral Animal Control (Foxes): $20,000
Commemorative Tree Replacement: $10,000

MOVE TO CREATE A ST GEORGE COUNCIL VOTED DOWN

Councillors recently considered a proposal to seek a boundary adjustment to create a St George Council by incorporating parts of the former Rockdale and Canterbury-Bankstown LGAs.
