Matt Allison
Peakhurst Ward Councillor of Georges River Council
Matt will fight for the interests of Peakhurst Ward.
Since he has been elected to Council, Peter has fought for the best interests of Peakhurst Ward residents. He will fight for what is fair and right for the community.
Meet Matt
Matt Allison was elected to Georges River Council in September 2024. He currently serves on both the Community and Culture Committee and the Environment and Planning Committee. In October 2024, he was appointed as the Councillor delegate to Georges Riverkeeper – the Georges River Combined Councils Committee (GRCCC).
For nearly 30 years, Matt and his family have proudly called Oatley home. As a devoted husband and father of two adult daughters – both of whom attended Oatley Public School, where their mother served as long-time P&C President – Matt’s connection to the local community runs deep.
He has been a passionate advocate for the environment and active community member for over two decades, particularly through his work with the Oatley Flora and Fauna Society. He has played a key role in many local tree-planting initiatives and is deeply committed to protecting and enhancing our region’s remnant trees and biodiversity. Increasing canopy cover and Caring for Country are priorities for Matt, who believes in preserving nature for future generations.
Professionally, Matt has worked extensively in bush regeneration, including in many of Georges River Council’s own bushland reserves. In 1997, he helped establish Kogarah Council’s Bushcare Program and has remained a dedicated Bushcare volunteer ever since.
Matt champions independent representation—free from major party influence—so Council can focus on what matters most to local residents. His work is grounded in community values, environmental stewardship, and a vision of a vibrant, well-connected, and sustainable future for all.
He is also a member of Friends of Glenlee, a group that successfully advocated for a heritage order on the iconic Glenlee property in Lugarno prior to its sale.
Councillor Allison continues to encourage residents to get involved in Council’s Bushcare program, believing that grassroots participation is key to creating a healthier and more resilient local environment.
The positive change Matt will advocate for on Georges River Council
Protecting the Foreshore Scenic Protection Areas
Before his election to Council, Matt was a vocal advocate for the Biodiversity and Character Planning Proposal — a critical initiative that strengthens environmental protections across our foreshore areas.
Now, as an elected representative, Matt continues to champion this cause, using both his voice and his vote to deliver the strongest possible safeguards for our environment and local biodiversity.
Campaigning to Save Glenlee
Matt is a proud member of Friends of Glenlee and has long supported the community-led efforts to protect and preserve the iconic Glenlee site in Lugarno.
He strongly supports the actions Council has taken in recent years to safeguard Glenlee and advocate for its heritage significance.
Now, as an elected Councillor, Matt is committed to building on this momentum. He will use both his voice and his vote to push for Glenlee’s long-term protection—calling for comprehensive natural and Aboriginal heritage assessments, ongoing community access, and a sustainable future that respects and celebrates the site’s cultural and environmental value.
