Local residents team up to run for Council in Hurstville Ward

The Georges River Residents and Ratepayers Party has announced its candidates to contest the Georges River Council election in the Hurstville Ward.

Lead candidate Bob Jones, who was born and raised in the St George area, is joined by Harry Wang and Rachel Zhang as his Hurstville Ward running mates.

Bob Jones has a wealth of experience in local government having spent over 30 years working at Kogarah Council, rising to the Director of Environmental Services and then Acting General Manager before he retired.

Harry Wang for Hurstville Ward

Harry Wang

‘I’ve known Bob for many years. He is expertly knowledgeable in local government and has the drive, passion and commitment to support residents and be a voice for the people.’

Solicitor Harry Wang is proud to be teaming up with Bob and Rachel. `We've seen the community ignored on too many important issues, and in particular issues that are important to the Chinese community that I represent. Issues such as a 50% rate rise for people living in home units in Hurstville and a lack of open space in spite of the rapid overdevelopment.’ Harry said.

‘I’ve known Bob for many years. He is expertly knowledgeable in local government and has the drive, passion and commitment to support residents and be a voice for the people. Bob is a genuine community candidate, and as part of a team from Georges River Residents and Ratepayers, is uniquely positioned to achieve real change at Georges River Council.’

Rachel Zhang for Hurstville Ward

Rachel Zhang

Bob has extensive skills and experience in local government to navigate complex planning documents like the Beverly Hills Master Plan and the impact this will have on families like my own.’

Also joining the team is Rachel Zhang, who has lived in Beverly Hills for 16 years. Rachel said ‘Bob has extensive knowledge and experience in the processes of local government, particularly in planning. He has the skills and experience to navigate complex planning documents like the Beverly Hills Master Plan and the impact this will have on families like my own.’

‘My house, along with nine of my neighbours’ will be taken from us for a new road and a park as part of the Master Plan if we don’t change this council. Bob has been instrumental in raising awareness in the Beverly Hills community about the impacts on residents of the Master Plan.’

The Georges River Residents and Ratepayers Party will be fielding 15 candidates across the five local government area wards. ‘We are a grass-roots local government political party. We all come from different backgrounds, different perspectives. But the one thing we have in common is the desire for change at Georges River Council. We will listen to and give a voice back to the community,’ Bob said.
